911 Education

Allen Police Department urges everyone to learn the best use of 911 services. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when calling 911:

911 is for emergencies only: to save a life, stop a crime, or report a fire.
For non-emergencies in Allen, call 214.509.4321.
Stay calm: listen carefully to the 911 call taker, give information, and follow all instructions.
Know where you are: be able to report your location. Whenever possible, use a landline.
Know your cell phone: cell phones don't provide precise locations. Know your surroundings and landmarks to report to 911 call taker.
Old phones are not toys: wireless phones with no active service can still call 911.

Allen Police Department’s Public Education Specialist offers 911 Public Education outreach programs. The message varies depending on the age group.

Kindergarten through second grade students are introduced to "Cell Phone Sally." Children learn what 911 is and how to use it. A short "Cell Phone Sally and Friends" video may be shown.
Grades 3-12 are reminded of how to use 911 correctly. Children and teens are taught about 911 capabilities and new 911 technology.
Adults and senior citizens are re-taught how and when to call 911. They learn 911 etiquette and are reassured that it is okay to call 911.
Special needs citizens are taught how to use 911 and introduced to the services that best serve their needs.
