|SUNDAY OPERATIONS NOTICE: Beginning Oct. 31, Allen Animal Shelter will temporarily limit Sunday operations. If you would like to adopt a pet on Sunday, call the shelter at 214.509.4378 to schedule an appointment. Surrendered pets will not be accepted on Sundays. Animal Services staff will still respond to emergency calls during this time.|
City ordinance requires all dogs, cats and ferrets who are at least four months old to be registered with the City of Allen. A pet may be registered for 1-3 years, depending on when its rabies vaccination expires.
Printed applications are available at Allen Animal Shelter.
Registered pets receive a modern and durable registration tag. The tag must be placed on the animal’s collar and worn at all times.
Pet owners can enter additional contact information, family information and veterinary contacts in a free profile connected to their pet’s registration tag. More than 96% of lost animals with these tags are returned to their owners within 24 hours, many without ever entering a shelter.

Lost and Found Pets
Allen Animal Shelter keeps a database of lost and found pets. Reports are active for six weeks. Lost/found pets can be reported through the MyAllen Citizen Request Center or by sending one of the following forms to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If your lost pet is found, please call 214.509.4378 to remove your pet from our database.
If your lost pet is impounded, it will be taken to Allen Animal Shelter. Pets not wearing a current registration tag will be held for five days for the owner to reclaim. Pets wearing a current registration tag will be held for seven days. If the animal is not reclaimed, it may be put up for adoption.
